This stunning statement necklace features a unique piece of Indonesian Opalized Wood set in a sterling silver with an open base plate to allow light to filter through the semi-translucent stone. The stone hangs underneath a 14k gold-fill circle, which connects in two places to the 14k gold-fill flat oval chain. The chain measures ~18", and the pendant adds ~2" of length to the piece. The chain closes with a 14k gold-fill hook & eye clasp.

Indonesian opalized wood is created when wood is buried by volcanic ash and silica is mobilized from the ash, penetrating the wood and replacing the wood grains, thereby petrifying them. The silica is often accompanied by other minerals that give the stone a wide range of colors: red, green, and purple colors are usually from iron; pink, black, and brown coloration is from manganese; and blues and greens are from copper.

I try to use every bit of metal on my bench and not let anything go to waste.
