This pair of unique and stunning earrings were made by fusing strips of 22k gold foil that were carefully cut by hand and heated and burnished to the fine silver earring forms using a technique called Keum-Tthe silver has been oxidized to make the gold accents pop. The earrings feature rosecut Ethiopian opals whose iridescent colors perfectly compliment the warmth of the gold. Earrings measure ~2.5" long including 14k gold fill ear wires.
Keum-boo is an ancient Korean gilding technique used to apply thin sheets of high karat gold to fine silver. The gold foil is applied with heat and pressure—mechanical gilding—to produce a permanent diffusion bond.
