This uniquely beautiful Montana Agate is reminiscent of a scenic view of the canyon lands with red tinged clouds overhead. The quality of this stone is very rare, because the clear portion of that stone is perfectly translucent and glows like honey in the sunshine. The setting is intentionally simple so as not to detract from the beauty of the stone. It is set in 14k gold filled bezel on a sterling silver backplate. It is suspended from an oxidized silver cable chain with on a 14 k gold-filled accent ring and handmade hook and eye closure. The necklace measures 18” in length and the stone is ~1” wide.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Formed in the Pleistoncene era, Montana agate is a type of chalcedony found in the alluvial deposits (i.e., river gravels) of the Yellowstone River. They have toppled down from ancient mountainsides that were formed 160 million years ago that were then carried and tumbled by rivers. This agate would probably be better named Yellowstone Agate, because it is only found in the Yellowstone Park area. The tremendous volcanic activity that produced the conditions necessary for the formation of this agate spanned hundreds of miles and millions of years. Montana agates are earthy and powerful, helping to balance our emotions and keep our feet connection to the earth.
A Note About My Jewelry
I create powerful, unique, and sacred adornment crafted from Earth's finest gifts. All of my jewelry is hand-made and hand-finished, from natural and often recycled or repurposed materials. I try to use every bit of metal on my bench and not let anything go to waste. In this way, all my pieces are somehow related - melted, remelted, cut, recut, weaving together so many stories being told through the jewelry. No two items are exactly alike and my pieces will have natural imperfections - I believe it is these slight imperfections that give hand fabricated items their soulful character and appeal.
